Hi All,
Just wondering, I asked my Hosting Provider to setup an FTP UserID with access to a particular folder only, which they did. I also requested they restrict access for this userid to upload only, NO download. They came back and said their "tool" does not allow restricting access on a per user basis. So, the access is upload and download. I want multiple clients to be able to upload to this folder using this one FTP UserID but not download any files.

I was a little taken back when my Hosting Provider indicated they cannot fulfil this request. While I haven't done much FTP Admin work, I've done a little. And, I researched and found this kind of access restriction is supported as I thought. I know this web site is hosted on a Linux box.

Am I asking too much, or is this type of FTP UserID setup a common need? Just wondering if I need to move this very old website (mainly used for FTP stuff anyway) to a new host?

TIA,
Steve

Yeah that sounds fishy. It depends on what FTP Software they are running on their Windows server - it sounds like it might be running IIS's FTP Service which is awful and very difficult to configure with limited options.

How are you hosting? If you're self-hosting a VPS install I'd recommend running FileZilla Server and you can configure which is easy to configure and set up with user permissions.
