Bear with me on this one as I don't have a ton of good detail, but I do have a mess that git restore should take care of. I'll try to keep this concise.

I'm creating a new API and got to the point where I wanted to start updating my DM project with a new topic. Because it's a variation on an existing endpoint, I started looking at ways to copy/clone the topic for that endpoint to seed the new one. I found the Copy topic to Clipboard option, and thought that sounds useful. I positioned myself in the topic tree where I wanted the new topic to go and tried the Paste topic from Clipboard option. Dumb end user tricks, I know. It appeared to overwrite the current topic which I didn't want. Tried to undo that and that didn't seem to work. I then noticed that the new topic was also appearing at the bottom of the tree. So I then decided to try and clean up the tree. To make a long story a little shorter, I then clicked into a different topic which I had not touched in any way during this process. The contents were gone. I checked multiple topics and found that I had lost the contents for multiple topics. I shut down DM and ran a git status and got this:

I'm just going to restore via Git and start from scratch creating this new topic, but it seems like fancier features like copying and pasting topics from the clipboard can result in chaos.

The copy and paste operation works like this:

  • Copy the active topic in the tree
  • Paste into the parent node that you want that topic to go under
  • It'll copy the entire tree below if you select a header topic (or any topic that has others underneath)

It won't move but copy...

It's mainly meant for copying across multiple projects.

If you want to move you can use drag and drop. Similar but you get options when you drop.

Thanks for all the time today. It's always educational peeking behind the curtain. I'll wait for the new build to be released before continuing.
