Just got my new laptop with Windows 11 OS. Now, just like many others, I am having difficulties installing VFP 9 on the machine. I have the complete runtime package for VFP9 from the original CD copied on to a thumb drive - the laptop has no cd player. When I run setup.exe (as I have usually done when moving my VFP development suite to a new PC), I get the usual 3 step interface displayed:
- Prequisites
- Visual FoxPro and
- Service Releases. But the process does not go beyond step 1 and provides a message "Setup has detected that some of the software components that are installed on your computer do not match the version required for Visual FoxPro. You must install a different version of the components."
I see from other posts that it is possible to install VFP on a Win11 PC.
Can anybody give me any pointers as to how to ercome my installation problem? TIA

Is there a log file? I suspect it's one of the ActiveX controls that FoxPro installs.
I've never run into this and I've been installing VFP on a lot of Windows 11 installs, but I usually do it on a fresh machine before a bunch of other stuff gets installed.

Rick, thanks for the quick response. The laptop is a brand new Lenovo Yoga 9i straight out of the box. I haven't installed anything else on it beyond the initial Win11 setup. I have not installed any MS Office components.
As regards a log file, there is nothing specifically referenced, and I am not sure what or where I would be looking for. But I will do a little digging to see if there are any new files on the laptop or the USB drive.
Partially resolved!
My problem trying to load VFP onto a new WIN11 machine has been partially resolved. Basically it was down to my "User error"! Due to a combination of the fact that I am not used to the new laptop or Win11 interface (yet..) and that I have not installed VFP on a new device for the last dozen or so years. I assumed that the setup program went through all three steps automatically once invoked. Of course I now know that you have to execute each step individually.
So mirabile dictu I tried again this morning and everything went as expected until I got to step 3 "Service Releases". It just goes to a MS page that says " We are no longer updating this content regularly....."
So I have VFP installed but no updates such as service pack2. etc.
I will try to navigate through this problem myself but if you have any tips that will make the challenge easier I would appreciate that. Thanks and Happy Holidays
