Just an FYI. I got this when installing the 7.25 update:
I'm using full-blown IIS in my dev so assume this is not anything that might affect what I'm doing but thought I should share.
Hmmm... that's from the Visual Studio Addin installer... Didn't realize it requires a .NET SDK to work.
It's a non-fatal error. You can ignore the error since you likely don't have an appropriate version of Visual Studio installed that can use the Addin.
I'll have to take a look and see what pre-tests I can do. I think I already check for VS installs, but maybe not checking for older versions.

Yah, I knew it was not directly related to the framework update. FYI this is the info I get from the VS2017 About dialog installed on my system...

BTW I also just ran into that behavior I mentioned where the code insert does not paste without selecting a syntax. In my head, I am equating OK with a go ahead and just paste it even without selecting a syntax and, of course, it's the other way around. I did verify that clicking Cancel indeed does the paste and defaults the style to txt
. One last comment on this before I finally beat it to death, plain text is not an option from the syntax choice dropdown which is what I wanted to use for formatting the about info.
Yeah the problem is Visual Studio 2017 (I don't think there's a 2017 - there's 2016). Microsoft changed the way VSIX addins work in 2019 and now again in 2022 (which ships in a week or so) although old addins appear to work in 2022.
I'm considering removing the VS Addins altogether and just point people to use VS Code at this time, since that is actually what I would recommend to use today. Between Live Reload and a non-locking editor not much else is needed to have a nice development experience.
Maintaining that addin has been a pain in the ass over the years - add-in code hook up code is crazy complex and maintaining it across versions has been a huge time sink.
The main issue with that is that the docs have VS as the editor of choice for so many things. Fixing the docs is the hardest part about making that break.

Yeah but it's something that's not great to show up when you're running the installer. It shouldn't fail. I have to check - at minimum it shouldn't run the Addin installation unless vs2019 or 2022 are installed.
