The getmac command shows the mac address of installed network adapters as well as a "Transport name". I would like additional information about it but have googled "transport name" with little success. Who generates it? Who uses it? Can it be changed or spoofed? Is it reliably permanent?
Thanks a lot,
Alex
Is this for copy protection?
If it is I would recommend not going that route. There are a number of issues with Mac Ids - people changing adapters, multiple adapters, vpns etc. it's often very hard to get the right adapter to use.
If you're doing this for copy protection I think it's easier to generate and write a GUID into the registry when you install the app then when users register use that Guid as a unique key to encode your license key. If they move to another machine the GUID won't go with them and the key will be invalid. Maybe even combine with a machine name or something other that might change but that can be easily reapplied in combination of the fixed GUID key.
This works well and thwarts most blatant lift and shift schemes.
