Hi Rick- We're curious if you're planning any 2017 West Wind Web Connection Trainings, at Southwest Fox or elseware (Maui)? Thanks- Ron
I haven't decided yet...
If we were to do training it would likely be the same thing we did last year, so it wouldn't be all that useful for people to come again. The problem is with the Fox market being as small as it is getting hte necessary 15 or so people at minimum to break even.
But let's open it up for discussion to all
- Would you be interested in attending another Web Connection Training
- What would you like to see
- Would you be interested in non-FoxPro style event (say ASP.NET with rich client front ends)
I'm curious to see what interest there is.
Let's hear it 😃

Hi Rick,
I'd love to see a course on managing an active web site.
Things like..
- Managing and analyzing logs - best practices
- Backing up data - best practices
- Detecting/blocking robots
- Blocking unwanted traffic in general
- Stress testing
- Security issues and threats
- Hacking detection and prevention
- Web.Config and INI settings
- Using your other tools - Web Surge, Web Monitor
- Optimizing performance
- Automating maintenance tasks - sample scripts
Just off the top of my head.
Carl
Carl,
Yup that'd make for a good topic, but way too specialized for anything but a session at the end of a day 😃
Too specialized?
Do you mean that most WC developers don't have to deal with these things?
i.e. no demand for it?
I mean that most people who come to the work shops are not ready to dive into advanced topics like automated deployment, load testing, dealing with traffic etc.
There may be interest but I don't think necessarily for those that are in attendance. It'd make a good conference session and perhaps an addendum at the end of a training but not focus of a more involved training.
The problems is mainly that we just don't have enough people to get into deep dive topics each year. it'd be nice to do for sure, but if it was a SW Fox session for example I can guarantee you turnout would be pretty low. I know I've done more advanced sessions in the past but it's too narrow of a target audience.

Hi Rick,
I am interested in non VFP stuff that extends the capability of what I know. For example:
Any gems available with DotnetBridge such as SignalR (what a find!)
Mastering basics such as javascript and html.
More on one page apps. Angular.
Ways to generate a dot net app that can be customized with business rule changes.
Hope you decide to give a seminar in SW Fox.
Alex
Hi Rick-
As of April you hadn't decided yet. I'm about to book air travel to Phoenix, but wanted to double check with you, so I don't have to re-book ($200 fee) to include the dates of your training. At this point can you confirm you are not holding a training at the upcoming SW Fox?
Thanks- Ron
In an email I received from Rick two days ago he writes that he won't host any training at SWFox. I am very sad for this, and I hope that he changes his mind.
Thanks Tore, I agree. Rick's trainings are totally excellent learning experiences.
Tore and Ron,
I appreciate the kind words and even more appreciate those of you that have come to essentially the same training multiple times. But there was just not enough interest to make this worth while this time around and frankly I don't have enough material (or time to put together a whole new training) this year to make this happen this year.
I know there's a core of you that will come any time there's new material, and if there is another SW Fox next year I will consider doing something new then. In the meantime I will be at Southwest Fox giving two regular session and a Web Connection vendor session (hopefully).
ALoha,

Rick,
as always, I respect your decision. You wrote in your email that you consider doing an online training session in the future. If you hold such a session, it will most likely be done during my very late hours. Please record it, and make it available for download.
