You have to look for messages using Search. Then you can click on the message link to find the thread/message link. When the forum was redesigned the lookup unit is the thread with the message id a subitem in the thread.

Might be a good idea to allow searching by msg id and showing the thread though, but that's not implemented currently.

From what I can see though those messages don't exist. I purged old messages some time ago because we overran the 2 gig limit on the database. We only go back 5 years now.
