Hi Rick,
I am in discussion with my bosses for buying the Licenced version of WestWind Web Connection.
Just wanted to have some things clarified.
Does West Wind Web Connection 6.19 ($399.00 - as per your Website) include the HTML Helper, Internet & client tools (ipStuff Class functionalities) and User Security classes
Or
Do we have to buy this functionalities seperately.
Thanks
Kalpesh
Web Connection includes all of those...
Web Connection is basically all the FoxPro stuff library stuff rolled into one big box 😃
But keep in mind that the license for Web Connection is for Web Connection use, not for independent redistribution as Client Tools are. IOW, you can use all the Client Tools functionality in Web Connection applications, but if you add those Client Tools features into a separate desktop application for distribution you need a separate license for that.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your reply.
We are Data Management and Print company. We also do Fulfilments for Stock Distribution.
Our clients need to Login to a Web Page and track their Stock/Database.
We are not into Web Designing & distributing it onto other Client Servers.
One Last question, We already have Web Wind Web connection Installed almost 7-8 years ago.
Since it has not been updated over the years, I dont need to upgrade this software now, as I presume, updating this would mean, I will need to make some changes to the existing Web Portals which were written by someone who has long past left our company.
So I am thinking of Installing the Lastest version onto a Different SERVER.
Just need One clarificaiton. Once an EXE is built, currently, our client login to the Web page under the url : http://vpn.mailshop.co.nz/xyzcompany
What do I need to do to set up the Web Portal under the SAME url?
Thanks
Kalpesh
This is not really a Web development issue but a network administration issue.
You can probably build your application on a new server and new IP address. Get it working and running, then change DNS to point at the new server when you are ready.
As to Web Connection versions and updating. 7-8 years - you're probably OK for updates not being a major operation. If you are running 5.0 or later moving to 6 is not a major undertaking. There are a few changes but they are global in scope and can be made in one place. Upgrading from pre-5.0 versions is a much bigger job as individual changes have to be made to some API calls (although we do provide the old objects for compatibility).

Hi Rick,
Current version we are using is "West Wind Web Connection 5.58 for Visual FoxPro"
Is it good for me to upgrade to 6.19?
Thanks
Kalpesh
Hi Rick,
I would be interested in Upgrading to 6.2 package
Please advise, what impact will it have on my existing Projects?
It will be best to get the upgrade package
Thanks Kalpesh
You can look at the Change Log to see breaking changes back to the version you might be running.
There's also a topic that talks about common things that need to be done to upgrade.
Hope this helps,

Hi Rick,
I have spoken with my IT guys. This is what they said
:"We will need to work closely with 3rd party application support (West-wind Web Connection) who will need to implement this and plan data migration from version 2011 to 2018. We will provide all access to the servers etc."
"I recommend this application on a separate server as current servers already have other roles on it." "- As this will be a new server and accessed from outside network by your clients we will need to isolate this server from your current network to avoid any security breach. "
"Your current setup runs on a very old server, it is recommended to check with the application support how we can move this to new platform with minimum disruption"
So from the above I gather :
- We need to install the lastest web connection Version on a New Server
- Does this Software has any pre-requisites for Server Specifications?
- We wil need to get YOU to talk with our IT Support team to get this installed properly onto a NEW server
- We will also need your support in helping us to migrate the Older projects onto the Upgraded New Version
Hope to hear from you soon
Thanks
Kalpesh
Kalpesh,
If you're looking for paid support please contact me directly - this is not the right forum for these types of requests.
I can help with installation, although all that information is provided in the documentation here:
- [IIS Configuration for Web Connection(https://webconnection.west-wind.com/docs/_22f0xkbmq.htm)
